We build payroll connectivity that enables the fintech and financial services ecosystem to connect consumers to the data in their accounts, drive conversion of direct deposit linked products, and verify income and employment history in real-time. We believe consumers should be able to easily share their own payroll data to improve their financial outcomes. However, connecting to the data is cumbersome when met with non-specialized solutions, and why we founded Atomic.

Job Description & Responsibilities
Commercial Counsel will play a key role in our company. You’ll be doing the most important thing we do: drafting and negotiating commercial contracts. We offer a range of services to a wide array of companies, many of which want different things and to interact with us in new and interesting ways. We also have interesting partnerships across technologies that help power or distribute the services.
This role will draft and negotiate commercial contracts, counsel internal clients on commercial and legal issues (e.g., limitation of liability, reps and warranties, pricing strategies, privacy), and be a huge contributor to our bottom line as a B2B company. You’ll handle contract negotiations single-handedly from redlines to execution and work independently with minimal oversight. You will have supportive colleagues but you’ll also need the skills to take a contract from ideation to execution, while explaining what you’re doing and making practical recommendations to the business teams.
You’ll report to our VP of Compliance and get hands-on experience providing legal advice and counseling on complex commercial transactions. You’ll interface with Product, Sales, Engineering, Finance, Customer Success and others.
- Drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, primarily MSAs, reseller/distribution agreements and NDAs, with occasional licenses, supplier agreements and NDAs.
- Breaking down complicated concepts and explaining them to the business teams.
- Drafting in plain language.
- Interpreting and providing advice to internal clients regarding rights, obligations, restrictions, and all other contractual provisions and business terms of commercial contracts.
- Advising senior management and internal business units on legal issues and risks, and exercising strategic business judgment.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Drafting/updating form agreements
- Privacy law compliance and product regulatory matters
- Online terms of use & privacy policy
Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of B2B contract experience
- JD, active member of a bar, in good standing
- You can manage and analyze various aspects of complex and strategic commercial deals from inception to execution, including negotiation, drafting, and modification of deal terms
- You understand the legal nuances of B2B contracts but you write like a human being
- You know how to build trust and be a problem-solver (and come across as a problem-solver)
- You can manage competing priorities and time in a startup environment; you understand that not everything can get done all at once, and you know what truly matters for sorting
- You’re curious. You hear about something you don’t know and you feel a need to learn it.
- You don’t need to know everything, but you know how to use your resources (regulatory guidance, your network, Slack, journals, books, browser, law firms) to find the answer to just about any question
- You know how to pause, take a breath, and translate from overly complex to something your audience will grasp
Benefits and Perks
- Medical, dental, vision and 401(k)
- Opportunities for equity through stock options
- Unlimited PTO, 10 company paid holidays, & office closure between Christmas and New Year
- Continuing education
- Paid parental leave
About Atomic Financial
At Atomic, we’re building payroll connectivity that enable the fintech and financial services ecosystem to connect consumers to the data in their accounts, drive conversions of direct deposit linked products, and verify income and employment history in real-time.
We believe consumers should be able to easily share their own payroll data to improve their financial outcomes. However, connecting to the data is cumbersome, met with non-specialized solutions, and why we founded Atomic.
Signing up for a mortgage? We make it so you don’t have to take in paystubs.
Getting a credit card? We can verify you’re employed in real-time.
Switching banks? We can instantly, and securely move your direct deposit to the financial institution of your choice.
We build user-permissioned connectivity into payroll systems. We do this in various ways, including reverse engineering API’s, web apps, and mobile apps. Our products are used by some of the largest financial brands in the world, and we’re funded by some of the best investors in the world, including Greylock (investor in LinkedIn, Nextdoor, Airbnb, and others), Core Innovation Capital (invested in Ripple, Nerd Wallet, and others), and Portag3 (invested in WealthSimple, Albert, and others).
Our team has been the reason for our success thus far, and it will be the reason we continue to succeed. We’re looking to continue to grow our world-class team to shape the tomorrow of Atomic.
